This volume in the new and groundbreaking Routledge Series Rewriting Antiquity will be edited by Christian Laes. The book is conceived as a major contribution to the field of disability history in the ancient world. It will be a multi-authored volume comprising 37 chapters of 6,000-8,000 words each, looking at deformity and disability from a variety of historical, sociological and theoretical perspectives, as represented in a variety of media. The book is intended to represent a vibrant picture of the discipline of disability history of Antiquity, showcasing the work of leading international scholars as well as that of emerging talents and new voices.

For this enterprise, two chapters still need to be filled in:

1. Infanticide, selection, euthanasia. From Thomas Aquinas, and the Renaissance Utopias to the Nazi-Regime.

2. The Coptic and Ethiopic tradition on disabilities

(deadline for delivering is 1st of June 2015).

Those with interest for writing one of these chapters are kindly requested to contact Prof. Christian Laes (University of Antwerp, dept. of history) as soon as possible. Please send CV, and abstract/proposal to:
